Dear Coaches,
Happy New Year and welcome to the 2008 Beat the Street season! Our winter programs are in full swing and we now have a few weeks of practices under our belts. Stance, motion, level change and penetration to a take-down are now a household terms in the new middle school programs. Please keep up the continued good work. Coaches, please keep in contact with the BTS staff for any needs and updates.
There are two exciting events that we would like to call to your attention to. These events will assist your wrestlers in learning new skills and techniques for the 2008 season.
The first event is a Beat the Streets Day at Hofstra University (check out the cool poster that we are sending you) in Long Island. Hofstra is ranked as one of the top college wrestling teams in the nation this year.
The event will begin with a great wrestling clinic being provided by Joe Dubuque, 2x NCAA champion and Assistant Coach at Hofstra University. After lunch, we all get to observe and experience an exciting NCAA college dual meet between east coast wrestling powers Hofstra and the Univertsity of Pennsylvania.
We will provide bus transportation by picking up and dropping off in your neighborhood as well as admission tickets to the dual meet. Please contact our office and add your team to the list so we can finalize the bus schedule.
Now that you have experienced some practices, it's time to display and hone your skills at our first 2008 BTS wrestling day!
A wrestling day is a time when all of the Beat the Streets programs, coaches, and wrestlers get together and learn from each other. It is like a clinic, scrimmage, and family reunion all rolled into one. All winter programs will be in attendance.
For the first time, wrestling day has been organized within the events of the 2008 Mayors Cup High School City Championships that will be held at the state of the art arena at the Harlem Armory .
We will have our own venue and when we are finished, everyone is invited to witness New York City's best wrestlers battle it out at the Mayor's Cup. This is a rewarding experience that will inspire our younger athletes.
By the way, all the coaches from Beat the Streets are welcome to attend the events. Winter coaches are required by contract and mandated to attend with their teams.
Lastly, if coaches haven't done so already, please send all your rosters and equipment requests to the BTS home office ASAP. Additionally, our first payroll is weeks away and there is still a few coaches who have not called in their social security numbers. Without this info, we simply cannot pay anyone.
Any questions, please call us at 212-497-2800 or at 718-350-1034. Ask for Ryan or Vinnie.
Remember we are here to serve you, and make your program the best it can be!!!!
Keep striving always,
Mike Cigala & staff
