> Fortress league teams and schedule
For the first time in history, the Beat the Streets Wrestling Program has organized interschool competition for its 20 programs that began in 2005. Many of the teams involved have been developing their program for two years with several having been organized for 3 years.
They are ready to enter the final stage of the model instituted in 2004 THE COMPETITION MODEL. A Committee of Coaches and the Administrations began last summer organizing the league, developing the weight classes and the schedule. It is a bottom up with the coaches taking ownership of their teams and programs. Each of them have indicated that their teams are prepared and ready to compete.
Let the GAMES BEGIN!
The competition model will have each team filling the 18 weight classes with their top wrestlers. They will wear special team uniforms, parents, faculty and the student body being invited with certified officials of the PSAL being instrumental in conduct of the competition.
The past two -and three years the coaches have been teaching the skills and techniques while participating in interschool scrimmages and Wrestling Day Events. All of these teams competed in the 2007 Middle School Individual Wrestling Championships held quite successfully at Hunter College.
The young wrestlers are ready and understand the rules of competition where somebody wins and somebody loses. How they handle these life experiences will help them to learn a lifelong long skill. No one can always win, especially in wrestling.
Losing should never be a discouragement, but merely a fresh stimulus to work a little bit harder in practice.
